The Revival Of Gospel Choirs Continues With Stellar Award Winning Producer & Radio Announcer Zak Williams’ “Choir Storm” On Philadelphia’s Gospel Highway 11
“Choir Storm” To Debut On Saturday, May 7, 2016
(Philadelphia, PA) – May 6, 2016 – Gospel choirs have been part of the African American church experience for a very long time. Groups like Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Singers, Walter Hawkins & The Love Center Choir and The Mississippi Mass Choir were staples on Gospel radio years ago. Stellar Award Winning Producer Zak Williams is bringing the choir sound back to Gospel radio with his show, “Choir Storm”. The program, which has been heard on LookUpRadio.com on Sunday mornings from 8AM to 10AM, is now hitting terrestrial radio. Starting on Saturday, May 7, 2016, the program will be heard on Philadelphia’s WNAP 1110AM, Gospel Highway 11, every Saturday afternoon from 4PM – 6PM ET. The show will also stream on www.mygospelhighway11.com.
Robyn McCollum, Music Director and PM Drive Host at Gospel Highway Eleven, is excited to have the new program on her station. She says, “While many ministries in recent days have attempted to replace the choir with more contemporary ensembles, I’m so excited about Zak Williams in his awesome presentation of gospel choir music in the Choir Storm Radio Show! Since day one I have been hooked and we at Gospel Highway Eleven are excited about sharing the show with the Philly and the World!”
McCollum isn’t the only one thrilled about the show coming to Gospel Highway 11. Williams is elated about it, too. “I am beyond excited to have my own radio show being a part of The Gospel Highway Family!”, says Williams. “Being from Philly and growing up listening to that station every day to now having MY OWN show featured on there is an EXTREMELY overwhelming experience!!!”
The program features classics and contemporary Gospel music from artists such as Thomas Whitfield, Keith Pringle & The Pentecostal Community Choir, Rev. James Cleveland, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Ricky Dillard & New G and a slew of other great artists. In addition to established choirs and ensembles, Williams wants to give up-and-coming choirs a chance for exposure. He’s created a segment called “Who Dat Choir?” which features choirs that Gospel music fans may not have been introduced to yet.
A choir master in his own right, Zak Williams has always had a love for Gospel choirs. A Philadelphia native, he grew up at Macedonia Baptist Church and loved listening to groups like the Savettes, The Philadelphia Mass Choir and The Freeman Memorial Choir. He attended the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and started playing for local choirs. He soon became the organist for Rev. Ernest Davis, Jr.’s Wilmington Chester Mass and is currently the choir’s Musical Director. The renowned choir won two Stellar Awards for their CD, “He’s Still Good”, produced by Williams. During his illustrious career, Zak has played for the greats in Gospel including Dorothy Norwood, Steven Ford, Dottie Peoples, Deitrick Haddon, Dr. Bobby Jones and the late Daryl Coley. He is also the leader of Zak Williams & 1/AKORD, a dynamic singing ensemble which is currently readying a brand new release.
