Fred Blain

A native of Camden, NJ, Fred came to Philadelphia at the age of five. At eleven years old he became interested in music and began to play the piano along with the upright bass, tenor saxophone and other instruments of percussion. Since that time, music has been a major part of his life. He advanced his knowledge and enhanced his skills through college education. The specified area of communication, known as radio took root in his life, which you can now hear, “Back in the Day” segment on Tuesday mornings.

In 1982, Fred’s dream became a reality when he obtained a license to broadcast. After working at several radio stations, he found a permanent home at WNAP, Gospel Highway Eleven in 1984. He has held many positions until in 1987; he was elevated to General Manager and currently holds that position.

Fred is the recipient of numerous plaques, citations, certificates of recognition and awards, which he was recently honored at the 2008 Stellar Awards as Gospel Announcer Special Recognition and Gospel Highway Eleven as the 2008 Radio Station of the Year Major Market Nominee. The highlight of Fred’s day is the “Word for Today” heard Monday through Friday at 8:30am. Our Gospel Highway Travelers look forward to this part as well as the staff because it is a word of God.
